Reports on HUC activities

DECEMBER 2003

SEA Games in Hanoi

For over a year Hanoi has been cleaned up and has prepared for hosting the 22th South East Asian games (SEA games). The games are held from 5 till 13 December followed by games for handicapped. Literally everything has come to a complete standstill and making arrangements for other events: like our planned International HAT Tournament is impossible during the last few months. We hope to be able to get everything on the rails on time for this tourney.

Christmas Ultimate Training

On Sunday 21 December we had a great ultimate practice followed by a Christmas feast at the field with presents for all players. HUC wants to thank the organisers for preparing this and bringing all the good food and drinks to the field. A merry Christmas to everyone and hope to see you all at the HUC New Years Beach Tournament!

New Years Beach Tournament Hoi An

HUC organised a New Years Beach Tournament on the beach near the beautiful historic town of Hoi An. Players flew in from London and from Jakarta to participate in this first ever event. The group of 15 players played beach ultimate (5 on 5, Bula rules) explored Hoi An and celebrated the arrival of new year.

Beach Ultimate in Hoi An

To celebrate the western New Year, a few members along with their fans and supporters hopped on the train to the picturesque , riverside town of Hoi An.

Unfortunately not all members could attend but they were there in our hearts and minds, especially when playing Ultimate on the beach!

What a treat to do so: a full size field, sun, the sea, enthusiastic players and spectators.

Curious people of all ages stopped to observe us running after a flying disc, they looked puzzle (weren't we all when we started playing)!  Our gaol in going to Hoi An was of course to have a good time but also to expose more people to ultimate frisbee.

We all got a wonderful feeling from running hard! We were huffing and puffing, runnning on the sand is no piece of cake.  We all timed our cuts and ran like antilopes on defense, except for Linh who jumped as fast as a kangoroo on one leg as he had injured the other one jumping over a rope! The wind was the toughest challenge, it forced us to focus more on our throws and to use the dump and swing (my favorite)!

The game was followed by a wild party in the evening to welcome the beginning of 2004. We all geared up for the party with extravagant clothing: pink skirts, sequel tank top, black silk shirt, shiny silver hot pants... We first recharged our batteries at a local restaurant and then hit Tam Tam, the bar where the party was happening. Let me correct that, with all modesty, our group started the party.  The place was packed with people who were drinking  but not dancing! So what did we do? We put on our dancing shoes and shook our bodies. Before we knew, the place was jumping. People were dancing, it was funky in there! We grooved to the music until the early morning and then headed to the pool. As expected, we all ended up in the pool except for Linh (again) , he can't swim with only one leg!

It was a memorable trip and hopefully it will happen again next year with more members of the Club. Many thanks to Marc for launching the idea, to Linh for arranging transport and accomodation, to Brader and Dribbles for coming all the way from England.
